Dallas, TX -- Shayne Lawson took over the driving duties for the Randy Meyer Racing team as they finished in the semi-finals at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 26th annual AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals in Dallas, TX on September 23-25.

Lawson, from Broken Arrow, OK, qualified fourth with a 5.32 at 270 mph, which was the fastest run of the year for Meyer’s team with added support from Smart Chicken and Mike’s Hard Lemonade.

First round paired Lawson against Lee Callaway, Lawson had the starting line advantage and won with a 5.37 at 267 mph against Callaway’s 5.40 at 259 mph.

For the second round of eliminations, Lawson was paired against Buddy Dominque. Lawson slowed down to a 5.45 at 262 mph, yet still had the starting line advantage to take the win to Dominque’s 5.48 at 253 mph.

Third round unfortunately sent the team home as they we’re up against Chase Copeland, the number one qualifier. Lawson was right behind him, but could not catch him due to the increase of heat as he ran a 5.40 at 266 mph to Copeland’s 5.33 at 274 mph.

Randy Meyer chose to have him drive the car to focus 100% on crew chief duties, “Things we’re looking good for the team with Lawson as the driver. It was a very positive step after struggling at the last three races,” Meyer said. “It was nice to see the car turn around and get the performance back that we are accustomed to running.”

Randy Meyer Racing team heads to Noble, OK for their final Lucas Oil Divisional of 2011 with hopes to maintain the lead in Division 5 they’ve had all year and wrap up the championship.
